Howdy Hi! Howdy Hey! We’re the Monochrome Workshop, a group of creators, working on the Monochrome RPG! A punnerific 1920s themed cartoon adventure starring the dashingly cute, Ottomess Blohtz, aka Otto!

The Monochrome RPG is a pun-filled black and white 1920s cartoon-styled comedy narrative adventure series. Perform on stage, entertain enemies, and build your own acting troupe!!!

You'll play as Otto, a (not for long) lone comedian, who sets out for stardom on the journey of a lifetime after their daily routine is ruined!

The Monochrome RPG story focuses on Otto's growth through their journeys in Vaudeville. In Monochrome Episode One, simply trying to head to work leads Otto to one of the grandest adventures Vaudeville has ever seen!

Try the Demo on Itch now! Available for PC/Mac!

Otto begins their day struggling to leave the house after Gackle locks everyone in for yet ANOTHER party. While trying to get their keys back so they can head to work, Otto finally gets past their stage-fright enough to begin the acting troupe of their dreams! But it seems the world will stop at nothing to keep Otto from performing!

Join Otto as they do their best on stage all in an effort to make it to work on time!

Explore the world of Monochrome while heading into the city of entertainment, Vaudeville! You'll play unconventional games with toons, discover widely known secrets, and help guide Otto to their true dreams

In Vaudeville, performance is the most important skill. Conflicts are solved with stage bouts, money is made through attention, and those who can’t "wow" a crowd are cast out.

Vaudeville has a new mayor: LeStache! The economy is in an uproar, and a string of suspicious disappearances has swept through the town, shutting jobs down. What could be causing these sudden changes? Watch as the disruptions in Vaudevillian society thrust Otto down a rabbit hole leading to the adventure of a century!

  • Troupe - Flex your prowess on-stage through stand-up battles called "bouts"! Can you entertain your enemies, or will you need your fists to do the talking for you?
  • Vaudevillian AI - Using modern technologies with old-timey campy imagination we’ve designed an interactive cartoon society!
  • Berry Punny Items - Fill your inventory with items that'll keep you laughing for days!

The Monochrome RPG is currently planned for PC and Mac! We’ve been working on a demo for over a year, which you can try here.

What's the Monochrome Workshop?

The Monochrome Workshop is a global group of creatives, collaborating and developing the Monochrome RPG together. We utilize Discord servers, weekly meetings, Q&A sessions, Creative Bouts, and our social media pages to bring our community together towards a common goal!

Art created for the Monochrome RPG:

Why are we taking pre-orders?

We’ve seen so many people interested in the game! We have so many people interested in helping and supporting! But we need a way to support everyone’s efforts.

We need a way to help our artists, musicians, and other creators find time to do what they do best. We need a way to reach out to as many people as possible so we can amass the hype we know this game can!

History of the Workshop and RPG

The RPG’s design was started more than 2 years ago. A group of digital creators worked for a year on the game’s story, building worlds, characters, factions, and more! After the first year of design, development began, and the Monochrome Workshop's first members teamed up. After releasing a prototype in June 2019 and building a website for team recruitment in September 2019, the Workshop expanded from 20 to more than 60 creators! We’ve proudly just released the latest version of the RPG, the Demo+ on Itch! And now we’re ready to start the next round of development to get a build ready for everyone to play!!!

Great job with the Workshop!  Can't wait to see the first release!

This is a amazing project! I love the art style and battle system. The tone of the game is fantastic as well. That being said I do have a couple of critiques.

1 - The text scrolls by far too quickly. It's difficult to read out loud what everyone is saying, thus making it hard to keep up with what the story of the game and its characters are about. I got confused about what to do next because there was no option to slow down the speed of the text. In future updates, it would be good if the player could control the flow of the text, either by selecting a speed option in the options menu or just clicking or tapping a button when they want the text to proceed.

2: The battle system, while great, is also explained at a pace that makes it difficult to understand. New players need time to acclimate to the way that the battle system works. It's also difficult to tell when an the player's character is damaged by an enemy combatant. Maybe some hit effects would work best. The same goes for damaging an enemy. I couldn't tell when the battle was about to end after telling a joke, because I couldn't visually see when an enemy was about to be defeated.

Those two critiques aside, I really loved playing this and I absolutely want to see more and play more when the next update is ready. Keep up the great work everybody!

Sincerely,
Alexander Trapp

Thanks for the fantastic comments!!! We've started on our next round of development and plan to have two pre-builds (that will probably be available via the Patreon) leading up to an update that will hopefully remedy everything you've mentioned. We're implementing updated dialogue, battle, and quest systems to help notify and inform players better!!!

Thank you again for trying the demo and providing great feedback!!!
